Get Current on Safety Standards in a Flash.
Understanding OSHA regulations and the NFPA Standard 70E

Arc Flash Analysis. It's not a test to see if you can figure out what makes the superhero, The Flash, so cool and how he saves lives. But it is a test that has recently fallen under a new standard to better ensure our safety.

No matter if you own, built or just work in an office building, following safety regulations is crucial to keeping everyone safe, allowing everyone to do their jobs successfully. Awareness of potential hazards so that you can take preventative measures involves staying informed about new standards.

Our very own Director of Safety recently wrote an article detailing the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) recognition of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E Standard. Falling under OSHA's General Duty Clause, the ruling requires companies to conduct an Arc Flash Analysis on all electrical panels. The NFPA 70E sets out mandatory guidelines to further ensure the safety of employees.

A word from our clients:

It is of great pleasure to offer this letter of recommendation for Pieper Houston Electric. Kalmans Marshall Engineers (formerly known as R. H. George and Associates) and I have worked together with Pieper for many years on many successful projects.

When Pieper is selected as the Electrical Contractor, we know we will have team players to work with to make even the most complicated project a success. The knowledge and proactive approach of their project managers and field installation team have enabled us to avoid potential construction delays by assisting us in problem solving and therefore completing projects on time and within budget.

We have used their expertise and guidance to assist us in conducting field surveys for renovation projects. This has proven to be a valuable resource for Kalmans Marshall Engineering during the design phase of complicated renovation projects.

Working with Hoar construction for the first time, Pieper has already finished about half of a 40-bed rehabilitation hospital in Cypress for HealthSouth, the nation's largest provider of inpatient rehabilitative healthcare services. As always, both Hoar and Pieper remain committed to safety first.

Pieper's responsibilities for the project, located at 13031 Wortham Center Drive 290 at 1960, include: electrical, lightning protection, fire alarm system and the cabling for nurse calls, data, intercom and telephone systems and security.

One of the primary obstacles to the project is the main centerpoint service. There is no access to the site for power, so a new easement from 1960, across someone's property with poles, had to be built – a project that is still underway. Generators are being used for temporary power for construction.

The Pieper field team, led by Bubba Sequera, has been working hard to complete the project on time, correctly and safely.
