Step Inside The latest news from Pieper Electric. July/August 2010 www.pieperhouston.com
A Powerful Difference: Are you paying too much for power? Think of a stream of energy like a stream of water. Now, imagine a water wheel in that stream. The water pushing the wheel does the work. That's real power. The rest of the water in the stream is the reactive power. The difference between the two is called power factor--and it can greatly affect your electric bill. Now what does that have to do with your power bill? Well, just like the water wheel, the real power does the work (meaning it's the power you actually use) and the reactive power helps move the energy through your power lines. Unfortunately, power companies often charge you for all the energy running through your power lines, even though your home or office is only using some of it. This is especially the case if you have a poor power factor.Using Power Factor Correction, Pieper can help you reduce your power bill.Ask your utility provider what the power factor is on your service. They will fax, email or mail you that information or it may be right on your monthly invoice. Pieper can help you look at the payback for installing an automatic power factor correction unit to your distribution system. Give us a call today at 713.984.9342 to set up a consultation.
Featured Project:Turner Stadium As the home field for Humble ISD high school since 1968, Turner Stadium desperately needed a renovation. To begin the project, the entire 40-year-old stadium was demolished and rebuilt from the ground up. Pieper brought in all new power distribution for the buildings, phone systems, scoreboards and stadium lighting, bringing it up to UIL standards. Most notable, this was all completed within an 11-month timeframe in order to have the stadium ready for the fall football season. A word from our clients: Pieper, when faced with scope changes, has worked as a team with Gilbane and the architect to provide the program as cost effective as possible. It has been their stance since the beginning to optimize the scope of work with the resources allotted rather than simply reduce scope to get within budget. They have been a pleasure to work with along the way and I hope to continue this relationship for years to come. Shawn M. Hooker Gilbane Building Company Senior Project Manager
