Staying Safe in the Summer: Reduce risks during storms Having the ability to recognize possible risks before, during and after a summer storm can significantly reduce the possibility of a fire. The U.S. Fire Administration and Pieper encourage you to take preventative measures and adhere to some safety advice about the damage summer storms can cause. With thunderstorms comes lightning, which creates an assortment of fire hazards. The extreme heat and electrical charge of lightning can fry objects and split trees. In addition, lightning can give an electrical charge to appliances, which gives them the potential to start fires or cause electrocution. To prevent these unfortunate events, it is best to have a licensed electrician check your system after an outage. Your alarm systems and generator should be checked for damage you may not see. You should also make sure your alarm systems have a back-up battery or back-up power. And as a precaution, schedule monthly alarm tests and replace the batteries in your fire alarms each year.
Pieper can provide you with skilled electrical technicians to evaluate your electrical and alarm systems as well as your generators. Furthermore, we can install transient voltage surge suppressors (TVSS). Transients, also known as surges, spikes or overvoltages, can damage electronic equipment in most types of buildings and environments. TVSS installations are crucial to protecting your power and power quality. Let us help you stay safe this summer. Call Pieper today to schedule an electrical check up to make sure your home or building will be ready for a storm. From building a new business to maintaining an existing one, Pieper is with you every step of the way. Featured Project: Atascocita High School Pieper played a key role in the development of the lighting, data, security, fire alarm and other miscellaneous systems throughout Atascocita High School. This large, 425,000 sq. ft. building is home to 2,400 students, all grouped in separate 'houses,' each of which provide self-contained, smaller learning communities with their own leadership, professional learning community and culture. The lighting installation includes beautiful architectural and structural accents, energy-efficient dimming and lighting control systems, as well as an array of large stadium and site lighting, illuminating the large sports complex. The project also includes lighting systems within the administrative suites, conference facilities, science labs and student learning spaces. Furthermore, the large theatrical lighting and dimming system within the auditorium provides the perfect ambiance for any theatrical or musical production. June: Making Safety a Priority At Pieper, we believe a good job is a safe job. As June is National Safety Month, we'd like to remind of our dedication to safety. Through in-house OSHA instruction and continual training on safety procedures, we have been extremely successful in reducing high-risk activities. In fact, we recently received two prestigious awards for our performance safety. In November 2009, we received the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Houston Excellence in Safety Award. The following month, we received the Texas Mutual Top Safety Award. A word from our clients: I cannot thank you enough. Pieper took this project so seriously and researched the best plan. You made us look good. You are truly a friend of Tellepsen and a friend of mine. Thanks for everything! Jay A. Hamel, Tellepsen Project Executive
